It is her heart's desire that, whenever possible, she not cause undue stress. Usually she'll go on to tell me that a family member is in the hospital, but regardless of whether they are awaiting an organ transplant or having their appendix removed, there is no cause for alarm. I'll bet even if she had firsthand knowledge of our imminent nuclear demise, my mom would say, "Rima, I don't want you to worry, but . . . you are going to die in fifteen seconds."
I got a call from my mom on Friday afternoon. There was no cause for alarm, but my dad was in the hospital. There was no cause for alarm, but he had gone to the doctor's after experiencing chest pain and the doctor had sent him straight to the cardio ICU. Also, he went by ambulance. They're about to do a heart catheterization - she'll call me back as soon as she knows something, there's no cause for alarm.
It turns out my dad had a heart attack, but he was very lucky - the blockage wasn't in any major arteries and he didn't need bypass surgery. In fact, my dad was insisting that he could have driven to the hospital himself. When I went to see him later that night, he was having dinner and looking very nearly like his usual spry self. By Sunday afternoon, he was pacing the halls with his IV pole in tow and wearing street clothes under his hospital gown to indicate discharge preparedness.
He's home now, feeling fine, and looking into heart healthy menu options he can live with. There was no cause for alarm. Except, of course, during those long hours on Friday afternoon when I started imagining a world without my father in it.

Don't worry yourself too much, you're only going to get worked up for nothing. Yes, he had a heart attack, but he's fine now. He's still there and you've still got time to spend with him.
xx
Oh, that is scary! He sounds like a character. I loved the part about him wearing his clothes under his gown! I am so glad everything is alright.
Oh Rima. I miss my father every day and that photo is exactly what I miss.
I'm glad that this cause for alarm was most of just a small wake-up call to eat better and to continue to stay fit. I see many, many wonderful years ahead of you both.
I'm SO glad things turned out okay Rima. Isn't it amazing what a little dash of perspective can do?
Best wishes, your way.
That's a bad scare, but I'm sure he will be fine, he just needs to make some healthy changes. It's scary as parents get older. Big hugs to you!
I'm glad he's okay.
First and foremost - SO glad your father is alright and recovering. I hope he lives a long and health-modified-diet full life.
Second, your mom is the complete OPPOSITE of mine. My mom's MO is panic FIRST, ask questions later. But just like with your mom, it's hard to tell where things stand exactly between COMPLETE panic and No Cause
For Alarm. Ehhh moms, what can you do with them?
Best wishes to your family.
I'd have been alarmed too. My dad had chest pain for months and shrugged it off. Then when he finally had his cath he had an 80% blockage at the major left coronary branch. Oh, huh. Quad bypass to follow. Now he is great. So glad your dad didn't need anything. It can be eye-opening.
Sweet pic.
Despite your mom's sweet intentions, it seems like there were alarms all over the place and thankfully everyone heard them in time -- the alarm your dad needed to take a little better care of himself... the alarm we all need occasionally to appreciate one another... the alarm to get our priorities straight. So tell your mom that sometimes alarms can be a good thing. ;)
(hugs)
Rima, I am so glad he's ok. I hope you get to experience the world with your father in it for a good, long time.
That is a wonderful picture. I'm so glad he is OK!
(My mother thinks there IS cause for alarm in nearly everything. It's exhausting.)
scary. glad he is doing well.
i love that he had his clothes on under his gown! :) I think i like your daddy!
That is so scary. Both my Dad and FIL had heart problems/heart attacks in the last few years. We were lucky too and they're still with us.
So scary. Best wishes to all of you.
So glad this no cause for alarm turned out okay.
Also, I hope your eyes are okay because I saw your other post but I have a morbid fear of eye stories and can't read it without passing out.
OH, Rima, that sounds terrifying. So glad he is OK, and that there wasn't major blockage.
This picture is precious. I LOVE photos from the back. You can see so much there.
Rima (weird saying my own name), think of it this way: He's getting proper treatment and care to prevent it from happening again. What a beautiful, touching picture!
Oh Rima, you did have cause for alarm.
What a beautiful photo.
Very glad that your Dad is okay. That must have been terrifying.
Don't fret too much, just savour the long time that you'll have with him, 'kay?
I love that last shot!
Holy crap! I'm glad your mom ended up being sort of right, in the end, but...damn.
oh hony, I'm so glad he's home. It's a scary thing but I love that it makes us all reflect a little bit more about how much we appreciate our parents.
Much love to you all.
thank the LORD that all is well.
We all have our path plotted out....hope his path is much longer........
hey lady. Hope all is well.
Just checking in . . .
