Hi, I'm Panicking

Is it just me, or is anyone else going nucking futs, reading all these swine flu posts and Facebook updates, unable to score any vaccine, and waiting for the beast to emerge from the jungle?

Hopefully I'll live to regret saying this, but if I can't get me some H1N1 vaccine (and I apparently can't) very soon, I sort of wish I'd just get the damn flu already and be done with it. (Not really. But kind of. But actually not.)

Clearly, it's just a matter of time.

I'm pretty sure one of the princesses who attended V-meister party last weekend has it, because her mom keeps posting cryptic Facebook updates about hacking coughs and high fevers, and when I sent her a probing email, she responded that "everything's fine, we're just really sick!" LOL!

4RL? ZOMGWTF!

Okay.

Isn't there some sort of swine flu code of conduct requiring you to alert people who might have been exposed so they don't go around infecting others? I mean, if me and my kids are walking germ incubators, it would be nice to know.

Am I overreacting, internets?

Well. If anyone needs me, I'll be in my sealed oxygen chamber, freaking right out.

Nope. Not overreacting. I'm kinda freaking too. My boys have had coughs for the past two weeks so I'm kinda hoping that was the swine flu. Probably not, though, huh?
We don't have any vaccines around here either. I'm kinda freaking about it. If I didn't have this newborn in the house I don't think I'd be quite as freaked. Wait. Yeah. I probably would.
ACK!!!!!

I just said, "I'm kinda freaking" a whole lot. I guess I'm kinda freaking. ;)

Nope, I'm freaking out too! "Waiting for the beast to emerge from the woods" is exactly the way I feel! We could only get Charlie vaccinated, not Wes or either of us which is stupid because it's not like Charlie is going to take care of us when we all get stricken. Sigh.

I do think you should own up to it if you exposed other children. Know your status, tell your partners is what I always say.

Glad I'm not the only one freaking out!

I am playing recluse these days because of it! My window for getting the vaccine is almost closed, and there are none to be had around here either. We have friends with it, but they were really good at letting us know! She even sent and email to me because we had been over to their house 36 hours before the first got sick.

A few things I do know:
You are contagious 24 hours before symptoms through 24 hours past the last sign of fever.
There is a 10 day incubation period. So, it can take up to 10 days to have symptoms once you get exposed to it.
For the healthy, it isn't too bad. For the very young or those with other issues, it isn't fun! That is where Tamiflu helps!

I'm not worried for me. I just don't want my kids to get messed up by this thing. I keep reminding myself...don't fall into the hype. But it's totally hard not to. I'm hoping you and your household remain swine flu-free.

I'm vagely worried, but since we only have vaccine here for zero-12 months, I'm not freaking out. What would be the point, you know?

(God please don't strike my kids with pig flu!)

(Freaking out? No. Superstitious? Yes.)

I totally skipped storytime at the library this week, but we won't miss out on the real germ trafficking that is Trick or Treat. I might be using this whole panic as an excuse not to do vaguely annoying, parent/child activities. Hmmm...

My older son had swine flu at the end of September. Really, it was just like regular flu. I know that in a certain percentage of cases, it converts to a pneumonia-like process and gets really dangerous, but don't forget that the percentage is very small.

I'm freaking out a little too. I was able to score an appointment for my baby to get vaccinated tomorrow, but other than that, the rest of us just wait and see I guess.

It's mayhem out there, with this flu. You are not crazy. Hugo's classmates are dropping like flies, so I'm glad I got my vaccine when I did--though I still can't believe I actually got it at all.

As you can see, I'm reading your posts backwards. But...I relate to the fears. It's all over around here, and friends have been really sick - where they almost took their child to the ER, one child was in the ER, etc. It is bad. Sigh of relief that the kids have had the vaccine. Now, us...
