Good Things

I just had to post it, the first day of school picture:

Kinda Bright Out Here, Mama

I used to listen to a certain song over and over during the early stages of my pregnancy with the little V-meister – Good Things by the Bodeans.

In the hyper-vigilant state that is the first trimester of a first pregnancy, the threat of miscarriage was always a looming cloud over my head. A worrier by nature, I impatiently counted the days until the second trimester began, thinking that I could then relax and enjoy smooth sailing.

I didn't realize that there would always be a new worry to replace the old: childbirth itself, the threat of SIDS, an unquartered grape, an unattended pool.

I see now that this list goes on and on, but at the time my biggest concern was that the tiny life I carried would choose to stick around.

The song was my mantra:

No, no, no,
Don’t pass me over.
No, no, no.
Don’t pass me by.
See, I can see good things for you and I.

Good things for you and I.

It's this song that came to mind as I drove Vija to school for the first time today, and the thing that uncorked the tears I had been sure would not flow.

Hey, Vija, Vija.

There's good things yet for you and I!

Thanks for sticking with me, little bean.

Myliu,
Mama

Heh. It was too bright for Jack's first day pictures. He's squinting as well.

But she's delicious!

I have several things to say about this - 1. She's adorable 2. I love that song 3. Now that you've applied it so expertly to being a mama, I love it even more and am going to listen to it and probably look at my daughter and cry.

Thank you!

Adorable picture. I'm still so far from this, but I'm sure I won't be stoic either.

OMG! Bodeans! Saw them three times in Colorado - two outdoors, which, fuck me, awesomeness. I'm linking you to my site just for typing the name Bodeans!
