Making a Post Out of Nothing at All

Works for Mom tagged me for this meme in which I am commanded to disclose seven things about myself. I'm not sure how I feel about memes, in general, but I surely cannot resist replacing my usual Rima-centric blather with blogger sanctioned Rima-centric blather:
  1. I speak fluent Lithuanian. (Vee are smoll Eastern European country, size of the Virginia. Vee have the Baltic amber. Very pretty, you like? Take! Take!) Never ask a Lithuanian if the language is anything like Russian. She will kick you in the shins and run away faster than you can say "Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact."

  2. On my twenty-third birthday, which fell on the twenty-third of the month, a seagull crapped on my head. I decided to take it as a good omen.

  3. The only movie I openly cried at in the theater was E.T. I loved that little guy.

  4. If you want to embarrass me, ask me to count back change. Can. Not. Do it.

  5. I cannot fall asleep without my white noise machine. It must be set to "spring rain", never mind the torrential downpour outside.

  6. I played with Barbies until I was about fourteen. I remember listening to U2's Joshua Tree album while decorating my special Barbie cakes (made out of wadded up pieces of wet toilet paper I would allow to dry in a plastic mold before coloring them with marker) one day and thinking, "Perhaps the time had come to retire the dolls?"

  7. All through my alternakid days, I loved Air Supply and would secretly blast "Making Love Out of Nothing At All" on the stereo while burning incense and smoking Camel Lights whenever my roommate was out.

And now, in an act that goes against every fiber of my rule-following being , I am not going to tag anyone specifically for this meme, but rather leave it open for the taking. (If you do the meme and want to follow the rules, you must tag seven bloggers and leave a comment on their site letting them know they've been tagged.)

You liked Air Supply? I'm sorry, we can't be friends anymore.

Except that I played with Barbies for waaay to long too, so that cancels out the Air Supply bitterness.

Can't sleep here without white noise, either. I use a fan. :)

I totally heart Air Supply. And Barbies. I just saw Air Supply in concert about two years ago. Yes, I said in concert.

Just wanted to let you know about a free giveaway I'm hosting this week. Come check it out!

Hey! We have the same white noise machine. Jack uses it. Only he insists on the "white noise" -- rather uncreative of him, I feel. One of the sounds ("woodland something-or-other") is the opposite of calming, with crickets chirping. Shudder.

You cried at E.T.? So did I. I'm so weak!

Once upon a time, my uncle said "something wonderful's about to happen". At that, a seagull pooped on his head. Needless to say, that line is still recited at family gatherings.

Hey Rima,

I am hoping to visit Lithuania while we are in Europe. From all that I have heard, it is beautiful. Have you been?
Can't believe you actually remembered # 2. Very impressed. One of those things I would have forgottensofast, it never really happened.

Good meme!

Air Supply reminds me of step-dad number 2, so I have a love/yet-uncomfortable relationship to A.S. -- love the music, uncomfortable about the stepdad.

I WISH I was like No. 3. Unfortunately, I often cry at movies and restaurants. The movie doesn't have to be a sad movie, and the food doesn't have to be bad. Just something about the settings, I guess...

I loved that song when I was young. I played barbies for a looong time too. The moment *should* have come for me at about 14 when we tried gin and koolaid while playing barbies, but it didn't. Bizarre.

barbies at 14? I kinda hope my daughter still does that. I doubt she will, though.
