Unrepentant

And speaking of bread, the V-meister was caught red-handed throwing her sandwich away at school recently. When I arrived at pick-up time, her teacher pulled me aside to explain what had occurred.

"I noticed her throwing her untouched sandwich in the garbage can," she confided gravely, leaning in close. "It appears that the V-meister does not have a taste for whole wheat bread. But we had a discussion about it, and as a result, she wrote you this note," the teacher said, handing me an envelope festooned with hearts, balloons, flowers, and the word, "Mama" written across the front.

I waited until we were back at home to open and read my daughter's tender note of apology.

It said:

"Mama I do not like whole wheat bread so I want just wheat (white?) bread for my lunch please."

Nice.

(Tomorrow I'm gonna pack her the butt end of some European rye.) (Just kidding.) (Not really.)

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! That is just too cute for words.

My boy has a hard time eating his lunch too, though not because he doesn't like it. He keeps bringing his food home (untouched) because he wants to get out on the playground for recess and doesn't want to waste time eating. EGAD! We had a long "discussion" about it and so far so good. ;)

How can you resist? Give that girl some Wonder bread!

Girl knows what she likes!

Hysterical. Tell her that half the time my kids don't get bread because we are out. Instead they get "roll ups" which is a piece of turkey rolled around a piece of cheese. Lazy AND delicious.

These notes are so precious. I believe my Mum still has a few like this from when I was a child...

That is awesome! I totally pined for regular ole white bread as a child too (my folks were health nuts). Let her have it, you know what happens when you force the healthy stuff? They rebel later in life and only buy delicious white sourdough bread.

Yum, I'm hungry now.

That is precious! I allow my kids to dislike a few things within reason. I remember what it was like as a kid - I hated tomatoes. My mother would say completely useless things like "It's good food, so eat it".

That really doesn't work when you hate what they taste like.

That's crazy!! I wonder how long she was doing that, and was she just skipping lunch? Love the note, I have to say.

Hmmm. I agree with your "butt-end of a loaf of rye" strategy. Do it enough times and I'm sure whole wheat will taste like candy. Perhaps a good Lithuanian rye...?

A couple years back my MIL came to watch my kids so I could leave & frolic in Yosemite for a few days. She had a big 'ole hissy-fit that we didn't have white bread. Made her son drive her to the store to get fricken' wonder bread & fake-o syrup because I guess that's how she rolls.

Whatever. I left & I guess she tried to feed my kids that good old wonder bread. Hahaha! They HATED it. Like they still tell stories about how much they hated it, hated it. That right there, made those kids mine and made me love them just a little bit more than the neighbor's kids.

But yeah, my 6 & 10 year old make their own lunches so I can have the full right to beat them if I EVER hear of them throwing out their lunches or any part there of.

How about the whole grain parading as white?

I know though. It's painful when you know how much better the wheat stuff is, and no one wants anything but the white.
