It was perfect timing, since she herself is scheduled for a long overdue first visit later this week and she's been obsessed with losing her teeth ever since she learned it happened to one of her friends. In fact, when the V-meister overheard me and the P-Dawg discussing finances recently, she informed us that "If you need money, you just pull your tooth out and put it under your pillow." Duh.
In the book, Dora is introduced to the various tools a dentist uses, including a mirror, floss, toothbrush, and the Scraper of Death (which they called an "explorer.") I kept my opinions about dentistry to myself, because not only was the V-meister completely transfixed by the nirvana that is a dental office as depicted by Dora and company, but a small crowd of her friends had begun to gather 'round as I continued to read aloud in my loudest, most convincing rainbows and unicorns voice about Dora's dental x-rays and the cavity that they unearthed. ¡Excellente!
When the reading was over, the V-meister and her friend, V-boy, were beside themselves with excitement. I overheard them discussing their upcoming appointments. V-meister wanted to know if we could go right after the party was over and V-boy, whose mother has not yet scheduled his visit, thought that he might be able to get in on Friday. My daughter had her fingers crossed for a cavity, and both of them looked forward with guarded hope to the prospect of free toothbrushes. Nobody's even told them about the laughing gas yet.The V-meister's appointment is on Wednesday afternoon. Despite the fact that she has it circled and starred on her calendar, she has asked me no less than twenty times if the hour is yet at hand. While I'm all for the idea of presenting a trip to the dentist as a positive experience, I hope that saucy little cartoon tart hasn't set my daughter up for a fall.

I predict she'll get over the excitement about this right quick.
Ugh. Dentistry gives me the shivers. I can't WAIT to get my braces off this summer. And bite an apple.
That's so sweet of her to look forward to it. I bet her enthusiasm dwindles as the cavities start.
For me, the hate started around the time I got my braces and has stayed ever since.
Ha! I just got your title.
I'll be curious to hear how the visit goes. (We have yet to visit the dentist, either. My daughter is almost 3. I expect to get scolded when I make the appointment, which just gives me more reason to avoid calling.)
I hope the V-meister is disappointed in her fondest wish for a cavity, but that the trip is otherwise as glitteringly magic as she hopes.

Argh. That posted twice. Well, I haven'y been commenting too much lately, so maybe I get extra points for a double?
Perhaps all I need to cure my fear of the dentist is a copy of this Dora book. I must pick one up right away.
FIrst of all- she is SO adorable!!!!!!
Second, I can't remember when I EVER looked forward to the dentist. yikes.
you can't handle the tooth!
I think I need to read Dora before I go to dentist next time.
Well God bless her. I happen to loath the dentist and break into a cold sweat at the mention of an appointment. But that's just me I guess.
I'm trying not to pass that on to my boys. ;)
My kids still think the dentist is fun. What's up with that?
oh, i need to go to the dentist. it's been well over a year
bad, bad, me
I HATE the dentist. I mean HATE! Little Miss is counting down the days until her appointment to get her tiny cavity filled, this after hearing at the last appointment, braces are coming this summer. Kids are WEIRD!
We have that book. I kept scanning the pages for the 'explorer' tool rightfully covered in blood and pieces of ripped off gum tissue. Because that's how it looks during my visit.
Hope it went alright for her. That picture is adorable.
